Being situated in the
most southern state of India, Kerala, the national park
experiences a typical climate of the state. The park
is a prominent part of Idukki district and is very close
to Munnar. The sanctuary is dominated by Southwestern
monsoon. So it is not advisable to visit the park during
the monsoon time as the area takes a dangerous shape
in the monsoon. So from the month of January to early
days of March are ideal for visiting the forest. There
are wide ranges of wild beasts like Tahrs, Atlas Moth,
Elephants, Sambhars, Gaurs, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri
Langur, Tigers and Leopards. Apart from the animals,
the place remains crowded by varieties of birds especially
in the winters when migratory birds come and make their
nest in the trees of the park and fill the area with
effervescence and vivacity. You can also visit the highest
peak of South India i.e. Anamudi.
